How to Make a Cinema Float, A Play Time talk and screening event, 4 July, 7-9PM

Whilst we're waiting for our new boat and to re-launch the Floating Cinema Project in 2013, we are hosting a selection of events over the summer. Here are details of the first one and we hope to see you there! 

How to make a Cinema Float

As part of a programme of activities hosted by the London Legacy Development Corporation taking place in early July designed to celebrate art in and around the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, The Floating Cinema, originally commissioned by the Olympic Delivery Authority in 2011, presents an evening of discussion and films about last year’s project and the exciting plans for the cinema to continue in 2013 and beyond.

Find out more about the complexities of making a Floating Cinema from artists Somewhere, architects Studio Weave and UP Projects, and be the first to hear the announcement of the shortlisted architects who will go through to the next round of the open competition to design a brand new Floating Cinema for 2013.

Screening: The Floating Cinema 2011 Documentary (12 mins)

Talk and Q & A about last year’s pilot programme and the present competition to design the new Floating Cinema in partnership with the Architecture Foundation. Speakers include: Emma Underhill (UP Projects), Je Ahn & Maria Smith (Studio Weave), Nina Pope & Karen Guthrie (Somewhere) Michael Smith (Writer/Director) &  Jes Fernie (Curator).

Screening: Drift Street by Michael Smith (Author and BBC The Culture Show presenter) (11 mins)

Screening: Barging Through London (Again) by Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie (9 mins)
